Beaches in Northern Cyprus
In Northern Cyprus there are a variety of beaches to cater for all tastes, whether it's exciting activities or simply a quiet and tranquil cove you are looking for.
West of Kyrenia
Escape
Situated just ten minutes drive west from Kyrenia this famous beach is where the Turkish army landed on 20th July 1974 following the Athens inspired coup which overthrough the Cyprus government and led to fears for the safety of ethnic turkish Cypriots. This intervention would later lead to the creation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Things have changed somewhat since then and you can now enjoy more relaxing activities such as scuba diving, jet ski-ing and banana boats. There is a restaurant overlooking the beach which serves a variety of food and later in the evening a disco which continues on to the early hours. Entrance to the beach is approximately four pounds and includes parking and the use of all facilities. Above the beach is a monument to those turkish troops who perished in the fighting.
Kervansary
A little closer to Kyrenia and slightly smaller in size, Kervansary beach enjoys delightful views along the Kyrenia coastline and regularly experiences very beautiful sunsets which are sometimes photographed for postcards and the like. Add to this a beach bar serving food & drinks, plus several organised activities, and you have a beach that is ideal for every member of the family. The entrance to this beach is free, although there is a small charge for beds and umbrellas.
Camelot
This pretty and well maintained beach club benefits from a beach bar and restaurant, together with live music in the club, throughout the evening, until the early hours. Entrance fee is £3 which includes use of all facilities
Mare Monte Hotel and Deniz-Kizi Hotel
These hotels are open to non residents for a small fee and both have delightful and secluded sandy beaches offering good amenities.
Sunset Beach Club
Further to the west towards Lapta the Sunset Beach Club offers a variety of activities from its small but well appointed bay.
East of Kyrenia
Diana
A small, peaceful beach with basic but adequate facilities situated a short distance along the Esentepe coastal road barely 10 minutes drive from Kyrenia centre. There is a small beach bar/restaurant serving good food and cold drinks. As with many beaches in Northern Cyprus admission is free, although there is a small charge for beds and umbrellas.
Lara
A small, quiet beach with basic but adequate facilities enjoying free admission and situated approximately 2km along the Esentepe coastal road from Kyrenia. There is a small beach bar/restaurant serving good food and cold drinks. Again there is a small charge for beds and umbrellas.
Turtle beach
This beach is protected by the government because of its importance as a breeding ground for turtles. Turtle beach really is an unspoiled piece of this Northern Cyprus paradise. On most days, even in the height of summer, you will find relatively few people sharing these beautiful sandy coves, which stretch as far as the eye can see. Facilities are few with no sunbeds or unbrellas but there is a small beach bar which serves food and drink.Entrance to this beach is free of charge.
Acapulco Hotel
There is an impressive long sandy beach at the Acapulco Hotel with abundant facilities and activities. There is also the largest swimming pool in the whole of Northern Cyprus with water slides… ideal fun for the whole family. Entrance is £4 which includes use of all amenities.
Further East
Beaches further to the east currently have few facilities though there are many delightful small coves which you might have all to yourself if you can find them. They are not signposted and generally the further east you go the less likely you are to meet other beach users, though remember to pack everything you will need for the day as you cannot rely on finding too much in the way of shops and restaurants.
